Air New Zealand has just announced that Bali is its newest international destination, with seasonal non-stop flights from Auckland to Denpasar to launch later this year.
The carrier previously operated flights to Bali in the 1990s, and said that the new route is "a great addition to Air New Zealand's portfolio of island destinations which includes Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands, Samoa, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Vanuatu, Norfolk Island, Niue and Honolulu".
The 767-300 service will operate twice a week between June and October "but has the potential to operate year round if there's sufficient demand," according to ceo Rob Fyfe.
He said the 8.5 hour flight time was a significant improvement on indirect services operated by competitors, which can involve long layovers.
"We'll be offering our flexible and popular 'Seats to Suit' fare structure on the Bali route, with great pricing and arrival and departure times to be announced closer to the on-sale date of 23 February," he said.
Subject to regulatory approvals, the inaugural flight will depart on Wednesday 20 June, with the aircraft fitted with 24 business class and 204 economy class seats.
In the coming weeks Air New Zealand is expected to announce more network changes as the result of its ongoing long-haul review, with the airline's half yearly results announcement set to take place on 24 February
